El inspector a cargo (el usualmente efectivo Robert Warwick) le explica al galeno que sospecha que un miembro de su academia de investigaci\u00f3n m\u00e9dica es responsable de los cr\u00edmenes, as\u00ed que Xavier solicita 48 horas para llevar a cabo su propia investigaci\u00f3n, para as\u00ed evitar una publicidad negativa que podr\u00eda perjudicar su buen nombre. En medio de esto tenemos a un ocurrente periodista (Lee Tracy) que trata de conseguir informaci\u00f3n fresca para su peri\u00f3dico. Xavier toma la decisi\u00f3n de marchar a su mansi\u00f3n de Blackstone Shoals, en Long Island, con su hija, sus criados y los cuatro doctores sospechosos, uno manco supuestamente libre de toda sospecha (Preston Foster); otro germ\u00e1nico y dado a la poes\u00eda (Arthur Edmund Carewe); un tercero con posibles antecedentes de canibalismo (John Wray); y uno lisiado (Harry Beresford).
